A Good Turn Company (“we,” “us,” or “our”) is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your personal information when you use our website located at agoodturncompany.com and all related services (collectively, the “Platform”). Please read this Policy carefully. By accessing or using the Platform, you agree to the practices described in this Policy.
1. Information We Collect
Information You Provide Directly
When you create an account, register for the giveaway, apply to become an affiliate, or otherwise interact with our Platform, we may collect: your name, email address, city and neighborhood, social media handles, business name and address (for Business accounts), payment information (processed securely through third-party processors — we do not store full card numbers), and any content you submit including reviews, business suggestions, and itinerary data.
Information Collected Automatically
When you visit the Platform, we automatically collect certain technical information including: IP address, browser type and version, operating system, referring URLs, pages visited and time spent, device identifiers, and general geographic location based on IP. We use cookies, web beacons, and similar tracking technologies to enhance your experience. You can control cookie settings through your browser preferences; however, disabling cookies may limit your use of certain Platform features.
Information from Third Parties
If you connect a third-party account (such as a social media profile) to our Platform, we may receive information permitted by that platform’s privacy settings. We may also receive information from our business partners, analytics providers, and advertising platforms.
Location, Media, and Activity Data
When you use features such as “Where Can I Find,” Events Near You, the Itinerary Builder, near-me travel-time estimates, or checking in at a venue, we collect the device location (latitude and longitude) you choose to share through your browser’s location prompt. Sharing is optional and occurs only when you tap a button and allow the prompt; we do not track your location in the background or continuously. If you upload a photo or video to earn referral points, we store the file and read technical metadata embedded in it, including any EXIF GPS geotag and capture details, to verify the media was taken at the venue. We also record the referral points you earn and your membership level (for example, Free Forever, Adventurer, or Trip Planner Pro), which we may adjust automatically as you earn points. Points have no cash value and are subject to program rules, including periodic resets.
2. How We Use Your Information
We use your information to: create and manage your account; process payments and memberships; send you transactional emails including account confirmations, receipts, and password resets; provide customer support; personalize your experience and deliver relevant itinerary recommendations; send promotional communications (with your consent where required); administer giveaways, promotions, and affiliate programs; analyze Platform performance and improve our services; detect and prevent fraud or misuse; comply with legal obligations; and enforce our Terms and Conditions.
We will not sell, rent, or trade your personal information to third parties for their own marketing purposes without your explicit consent.
3. How We Share Your Information
Service Providers: We share information with trusted third-party vendors who assist us in operating the Platform, including payment processors (Stripe), email service providers, analytics platforms, cloud hosting providers, and marketing tools. These providers are contractually obligated to protect your data and use it only as directed by us.
Maps and nearby places (OpenStreetMap): To help you discover places and events near you, some features send your approximate location to OpenStreetMap services (the Overpass API, and, where maps are shown, OpenStreetMap map tiles and the Nominatim geocoding service) to return nearby results. We use these free, open mapping services instead of Google Maps. Your coordinates are transmitted to OpenStreetMap only to perform the lookup you requested. See the OpenStreetMap Foundation Privacy Policy at https://wiki.osmfoundation.org/wiki/Privacy_Policy for how they handle that data.
Your authorization for third-party services: By using features that rely on third-party services, including OpenStreetMap for maps and place lookups and, where applicable, payment and mapping providers, you authorize us to transmit the limited information necessary (such as your approximate location for a search) to those services so they can return the results you requested. We share only what is needed to perform the feature you initiate, and each provider’s own privacy terms govern their handling of that data. You can decline location sharing or choose not to upload media, though some features will then show fewer or no results.
Business Listings: If you are a Business Account holder, your business name, description, and contact information may be displayed publicly on the Platform as part of your listing.
Affiliate Program: If you participate in our affiliate program, limited information (such as your name and payout details) is shared with our affiliate management system for commission tracking and payment purposes.
Legal Requirements: We may disclose your information when required to do so by law, court order, or government regulation, or when we believe disclosure is necessary to protect the rights, property, or safety of A Good Turn Company, our users, or the public.
Business Transfers: In the event of a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction. We will notify you via email or prominent notice on the Platform before your data is transferred and becomes subject to a different privacy policy.
4. Data Retention
We retain your personal information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide services. You may request deletion of your account and associated data at any time by contacting us. We will retain certain information as required by law or legitimate business purposes (for example, transaction records for tax compliance).
5. Your Rights and Choices
Depending on your location, you may have the following rights regarding your personal data:
Access: Request a copy of the personal information we hold about you.
Correction: Request correction of inaccurate or incomplete information.
Deletion: Request deletion of your personal data, subject to certain legal exceptions.
Opt-Out: Opt out of marketing communications at any time by clicking “unsubscribe” in any email or contacting us directly. You may still receive transactional emails related to your account.
Data Portability: Request a machine-readable copy of your data where technically feasible.
California Residents (CCPA): California residents have additional rights including the right to know what personal information is collected, the right to opt out of the sale of personal information (we do not sell your data), and the right to non-discrimination for exercising privacy rights.
EU/UK Residents (GDPR): Residents of the European Union and United Kingdom have rights under the General Data Protection Regulation including the right to object to processing, restrict processing, and lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority.
To exercise any of these rights, please contact us through the Contact page on this website.
6. Cookies and Tracking Technologies
We use the following types of cookies: Essential Cookies required for the Platform to function (account authentication, session management); Analytics Cookies that help us understand how users interact with the Platform (e.g., Google Analytics); and Marketing Cookies used to deliver relevant advertising and track affiliate referrals. You may opt out of analytics and marketing cookies through your browser settings or our cookie consent tool.
7. Children’s Privacy
The Platform is intended for users 18 years of age and older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from individuals under 18. If we become aware that we have collected data from a minor, we will take steps to delete it promptly. If you believe a minor has provided us with personal information, please contact us immediately.
8. Security
We implement commercially reasonable administrative, technical, and physical security measures designed to protect your personal information from unauthorized access, disclosure, alteration, or destruction. These measures include SSL/TLS encryption for data transmission, secure password hashing, and access controls limiting who can access personal data. However, no method of transmission over the internet or electronic storage is 100% secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security and are not responsible for the actions of third parties who circumvent our security measures.
9. Third-Party Links
The Platform may contain links to third-party websites, businesses, or services not operated by A Good Turn Company. This Privacy Policy does not apply to those third-party services. We encourage you to review the privacy policies of any third-party sites you visit. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of third parties.
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will notify you by posting the updated Policy on this page with a new “Last Updated” date and, where appropriate, sending you an email notification. Your continued use of the Platform after any changes constitutes your acceptance of the updated Policy.
11. Contact Us
If you have questions, concerns, or requests regarding this Privacy Policy or your personal data, please contact us through the Contact Us page on this website or at the address listed in our Terms and Conditions.
By using the A Good Turn Company platform, you acknowledge that you have read and understood this Privacy Policy.
