Learn how to make a simple quilt block and sew one up to donate to our community quilt! The WasteShed (with help from the Chicago Textile Center) is hosting a Quilt Block making workshop on August 12th where participants will learn the basics of sewing a quilt block by hand from start to finish. The quilt blocks will be featured in a community art project and will be sewn together at the Re-Thread Quilting Bee later in August. This year’s community quilt theme is “Park Picnic” and each block will celebrate our city’s patchwork of outdoor spaces and the different ways that Chicagoans gather outdoors together through embroidery, fabric, and the quilt blocks themselves. Join us and spend an afternoon crafting together!This workshop is open to total beginners and seasoned sewers alike. All materials will be provided, as well as instructions for block making in both Spanish and English. Registration is required.
¡Aprende a hacer un sencillo bloque de colcha y cóselo para donarlo a nuestra colcha comunitaria! The WasteShed (con la ayuda del Chicago Textile Center) organiza un taller de bloques de colcha el 12 de Agosto, donde los participantes aprenderán los fundamentos de la costura a mano de un bloque de colcha de principio a fin. Los bloques se incluirán en un proyecto artístico comunitario y se coserán juntos en el Re-Thread Quilting Bee a finales de Agosto. El tema de la colcha comunitaria de este año es “Picnic en el parque” y cada bloque celebrará la diversidad de espacios al aire libre de nuestra ciudad y las diferentes maneras en que los habitantes de Chicago se reúnen al aire libre a través del bordado, la tela y los propios bloques de colcha. ¡Únete a nosotros y pasa una tarde creando juntos!
